“You think she’ll come?” Wes asked, lying back on our bed.

“Will you be able to do anything if she does? After all, you did basically run a marathon,” I replied, scrolling through my email, stopping when I got to the photo of Irene.

“Is she pregnant?” Wes reached for the phone.

“No, she’s just carrying a basketball under her jacket.”

He shot me a glare out of the corner of his eye. “She looks happy.”

“She is happy.” I smiled. “So happy she barely even calls or texts me anymore.”

“You must be quite devastated; whose life are you going to try and save now?” He laughed, handing me back the phone, leaning on my arm.

He meant it as joke but there was honesty there. I often fixated on helping other people so I wouldn’t have to deal with my life. It was the greatest thing about being a reporter; I was consistently reminded my life could be worse and since it wasn’t, I should be thankful.

“For the meantime, I’m working on saving our lives, before you run off into another thunderstorm.”

“You are not going to let that go?” He groaned.

“Far too soon to let it go. Besides, it was very romantic. Very Wes.”

“You know romance is my first language.”

“Urgh.” I pretended to gag and he threw his pillow at me. Laughing, I grabbed mine, smacking him as hard as I could with it, causing the pillow to burst, the goose feather flying all over the place and he just returned the favor. We fought with the pillows until they were nothing more than deflated sheets, leaving us with only our hands to battle with. Grabbing onto my torso, he flipped me over, pinning me down. Twisting over, I pushed him back, getting a better hold on him to get him onto his back. On and on we rolled on top of the feathers.

Hands above my head, he pinned me back down, lying on top of me, breathing just as hard as I was.

“You’re right, I did run a marathon this morning, but I’m in shape. You, on the other hand, my love, has been taking it kind of easy don’t you think.” The son-of-a-bitch winked.

“Or maybe I’m just letting you have your way.”

“They why do you look so pissed I won?”

“Who the hell said you won—”

He kissed me, and I kissed him back eagerly, and no sooner had I opened my mouth he pulled back, grinned and said, “Like I said, I won.”

Little fucking—

“Should I come back later?”

At the sound of her voice, we both turned back, and if we weren’t hard before, we sure as well would have been now. Wearing nothing but one of my dress shirts, and I mean nothing, it was so thin, I could see her nipples poking out through it.

“No,” Wes and I both said. He rolled off of me as I sat up on my elbows.

The corner of her mouth turned up as she walked over to us slowly. I couldn’t look away, she stared directly into my eyes, unbuttoning her shirt, letting it drop to the ground.
